Then I click on the composite tab at the top, put the url of the image I want to use as a tag in the url box; Gravity: Northwest +0+0, make sure Over is showing in the dropdown menu and click the composite button. Then either annotate, or output (as a gif) and transload.
You say there's a problem...your image doesn't transparify well. I go ahead and transparify, then I trim (under the Transform tab) then replace the color using the paint feature and output as a jpg. Follow the above steps, and after you comp the image on the transparent gif then paint that side to match the bg of your image.
I will also use the paint feature if a gif is too high in k's after I'm done making the blank tag (examples below). Output as a jpg with Quality 30 or 40 and crunch those k's down to acceptable numbers.
