Using Crop at IM
Using Crop at IM

This tute assumes you have basic knowledge of IM.
crop is found under the Transform tab, in the first column.

Remember...as with all things at IM the first number always refers to width and the second number always refers to height. With crop there are two sets of numbers. The first two refer to the width and height of the image. The second two refer to where and how much you are cropping off the image.

We're going to crop this image. It is 300x200, and I've drawn a box 50 pixels in from all sides.image
300x200
Crop from the left

In the parameter box put:
300x200+50-0
This tells IM to crop 50 pixels from the left side of the image...notice that 50 is the first number.

image
250x200
Crop from the top

In the parameter box put:
300x200-0+50
This tells IM to crop 50 pixels from the top of the image...notice that 50 is the second number.

image
300x150
Crop from the right

In the parameter box put:
300x200-50+0
This tells IM to crop 50 pixels from the right side of the image.

image
251x200
Crop from the bottom

In the parameter box put:
300x200+0-50
This tells IM to crop 50 pixels from the bottom of the image.

300x151

A couple of notes

1. NetworkEleven has one quirk when cropping from the right and the bottom. There are invisible pixels on those sides, so your resulting image will be one pixel more than you anticipate. [see the height and widths under the samples]

2. If you are going to be cropping from more than one side you will need to adjust the width and height in the parameter. The current height and width are always noted in the status bar...if your image name isn't too long.

For example, if you've cropped from the left and want to crop from the right you will have to adjust the width to reflect the new width of the image. Sometimes IM will crop if you don't do this, but many times it doesn't.

Now grab an image, or use the one above, and practice cropping :))
