| I chose this image...which is a jpg | ![]() example jpg |
| The first thing I did was use the paint option, Matte, Replace, Fuzz 12000, Color: none to remove all the white. | ![]() 01 gif |
| Then I decided which areas I wanted to 'glass' first and used the paint feature Color, Floodfill, Fuzz 12000, Color: limegreen (I choose to use limegreen because Mr Cristy's original IM and the one hosted by pair.com, as well as DS IM all have white backgrounds.) | ![]() 02 gif |
| I save all the blanks I create so that I can use them again. If you choose to do this, remember to output them as gifs. | ![]() 03 gif |

Now comes the fun part :)) If you already know which site you're going to use for your pieces of glass, put the url in your find box...that makes it easier to go back and forth to grab the url for it...unless you're very organized and have written down the urls of the backs. You can do this part as you make the blanks. Whichever is easier for you.
| Take your first blank to IM. Click on the Composite tab. Remove the http:// from the url box and put in the url of the back you want to use for the outline of your final image. (Actually, I use Cmd+A then Cmd+V to load the url.) Compose IN, check the tile across and down the image canvas box. | ![]() 01a gif |
| Do this with each blank until you have all your parts completed. You will have to output each one...remember to output as gifs. | ![]() 02a gif |
![]() 03a gif | ![]() 04a gif |
![]() 05a gif | ![]() 06a gif |
![]() 07a gif | You don't have to output the last one. |
Now it's time to assemble your piece!
| I assemble in reverse order of the way I've made my gifs. Click on the composite tab. Put the url of the previous gif in the box and Compose Over. This is the default setting, but if you have not outputted the last piece you will have to change the setting for this one, and uncheck the tile box. | ![]() 1st composite |
| Do this until all of them are composited, one over the other. | ![]() 2nd composite |
![]() 3rd composite |
![]() 4th composite |
![]() 5th composite |
![]() final composite |
Since I have 'glassed' the entire image, I resized to 300x342, outputted as a jpg Quality 40 (under optional output attributes) If I didn't do this, this image would be over 100 k's**!!
(Did I just hear a ==THUD!== ?)
If you opt to leave the outer margins transparent, take your gif to gifworks or myImager to optimize and get those k's down.
**for this tute I resized most of the images to 200x231...the k's were killing the loading time
